We have always had contact
with families in need. The numbers have increased over the years and we
are currently in contact with over 200 families, many of which are
single parent.
The
contacts for this part of FAITH's work have come from the local social
services, health visitors, doctors surgeries, other local
charities and churches.
We aim to help practically by providing food parcels,
sometimes putting some money on their gas or electric meters, or when we
can, helping with minor DIY work.
We
also
help them to access other appropriate services around the town for
help with benefits, debt, advice, childcare etc etc.
We have a number of churches which help
with these home visits to people living within their community, and
who take on the visiting role to reduce the load on the staff
and daytime volunteers.
Also, being local to the family means that contact
can be more frequently made.
Christmas
Hampers
Each Christmas we collect,
sort and deliver Food Hampers to people
in need across Reading.
We need
volunteers to come and help us.
